branch56:

When the new World’s Finest title got announced, I think I was more excited to see what the ‘new’ Power Girl was going to look like than what the book was about. And then I saw the cover, and I dunno, I could take it or leave it. I’m disappointed that its such a step away from ‘classic’ version, especially since they tinkered only a little with Huntress’ costume she’s been wearing the last couple of years.(obviously, she had variant designs but they stayed in the same playground)
So I took the parameters that Kevin Maguire were given and attempted this redesign. Remember, his parameters were: Cape, No sleeves, no Boob window and pants. This is what I came up with, and I think its okay. Not great, but just okay. I think I was overthinking it too much.

Starfire Contest

You may have noticed the profound lack of Starfire redesigns here, aside from the few we reblogged. In spite of the face that we posted almost 50 submissions over on Superhero of the Month

Honest truth, things got busy, and I fell way behind. So I’m sorry. I’ll do my best to keep this part of the site up-to-date henceforth. But you really should check out all the Starfires we received, they are amazing.

View them here.

In the meantime, we’re hosting a Birds of Prey contest with the always awesome Girls Read Comics, so check that out!

See you all soon!

Starfire Redesign
Here is my entry for Superhero of the Month’s newest topic, Starfire.
Rather than go the ultra-sleazy route that seems to be popular these days, I decided to go the retro chique route. I designed the costume to be an homage to the ’50s style “space girl” look. Still being sexy without giving it all away for free.
As for her skin, I tried to give her an almost translucent, glowing quality. Her power is actually radiating from within her body, much like an actual star. I imagined that the hair would be so much of an actual flame, but something along the lines of plasma and solar flares. It’s constantly shifting and morphing.
So what do you think?
